confusion

this is my first post, and i’m confused. i guess it’s not the first time i’ve been confused, but maybe it’s the first time i’ve shared publicly about it. this site has incredible design — props to my bros. seriously, it seems very easy to use and highly pleasing to ol’ eyeballs. i guess i still don’t fully understand the relationship between this blog and the previous wiki. and since i spent time getting used to the wiki, i wanted to give them some time to work out their relationship before i moved in and starting using the blog too. i’m such a player.

is this our new setup? is this what we use now? i want a place to post my papers and a blog-style online journal, which the other site seemed to do well. i also want a place to chat with my bros, which this site does very well. i guess maybe the journal and the blog can be easily combined, and that will force you guys to read what’s going on in my life. i’m less clear about the posting papers idea, and i’d like to figure that out so i can send a link out to the family (in other words, grandpa meyer–the only one who will probably take the time to read my shit [papers]). so what’s the word? maybe i should just start a category for myself titled “jonny’s life” or something like that. and another one for “jonny’s papers”? hmm.

    the personal posts category question is a good one (i think the relation between wiki and blog will become more clear as we discover exactly what we find easiest to do on each one).

    1. so i used a generic “self self reference” category that could be our general personal stuff - but then you can’t sort one of us out.
    2. or we could make new categories for each of us like jonny suggests, but that gets clunky. with too many categories they become meaningless.
    3. or, if you want to sort by us you use the author pages, but then you can’t sort by category as well…
    4. or we each set up our own blog for private blogging (eric.meyerbros.org) and then link to each other in super-sweet ways.
    5. or i could do some major hacking and we somehow use the “custom fields” option to sort things any way we damn well please. but that’s a lot of work

    i like the idea of seperate blogs linked well - we could possibly even build an aggregator into it for a unified front-end. then this blog is reserved for what exactly? topics of interest to all three of us? design stuff? i don’t know.
